    Origins at the temple

The school initially started as an aided school with one teacher. The school was started at the temple on the instructions of the head monk of the Mu Dela Gangaramaya Temple in Pragnarathana, Badulla. The teacher at that time was a gentleman named Fernando. Later, a temporary building was built and moved to a place called Beligaha Yata behind the Dela Kada Row. At that time, there was a propaganda bungalow of the officials at this place. This bungalow was demolished and a temporary building was built and the school was started. That was around the year 1933.

In addition, classes up to the Ordinary Level were increased by D. E. Iddamalgoda. Advanced Level classes were started by J. K. H. Jayakody.
